Spain’s National Federation of Door and Automation Manufacturers, Installers and Maintainers (FIMPA) has held a workshop on safety of industrial doors in collaboration with the Madrid Regional Institute for Safety and Health at Work (IRSST) to provide more information about the sector as part of its planned action campaign aimed at H&SW specialists in the Madrid region. The Federation highlighted the importance of doing more market surveys and promoting Replacement Plans to encourage adaptation of existing door installations, promoting the CE Mark and implementing the recommendations in inspection reports by the Ministry of Industry.

“Through the Market Unit Working Group, we’ve been finding out about the market survey campaigns it has been doing and we’ve learned about the results of those survey campaigns, which have certainly highlighted the shortcomings of existing installed doors,” said FIMPA president Juan Ramirez.

During the meeting, in which Graciela Romero, Head of IRSST’s Technical Execution Unit at the Economy, Employment and Finance Department at Madrid Regional government took part, the presentations included recent figures for the industry. Specifically, since 2015 there have been 21 industrial door accidents in companies, one of them fatal.

“Until now, automatic doors haven’t been considered a H&SW issue,” declared Juan Ramírez, who emphasised that one of the main reasons for organising the conference was to encourage a uniform application of criteria when assessing and reducing health & safety risks.
